Thomas Stinson is said to have come to Maine with Dunbar's Scotch-Irish Colony. He settled on Arrowsic Island, then a part of Georgetown, ME, but later included in the town of Woolwich, ME. He was a Presbytarian minister. He and son Thomas sigened the petition for the incorporation of Woolwich, Me. as a town, April 1, 1754.
Thomas Stinson moved from Georgetown, Me. to Boston, Mass., where he lived about twelve years; and from which place he and his family moved to Deer Isle, Me., in 1765, being the first settlers on what is now known as Stinson's Neck.
Thomas Stinson was an officer in the army during the Frence and Indian wars. At the suggestion of his wife, he conducted the first religious services held on Deer Isle He was a man of piety and performed the first religious service under a large tree on his property; and was a deacon of the church established at Deer Isle in 1773. He was among the first justices of the peace at Deer Isle. He was moderator of the first town meeting and chairman of the first board of selectmen at Deer Isle. Thomas Stinson's real estate passed into the hands of his son, John; at it later became the property of Hardy Lane.

Will of Thomas Stinson, as copied by BLN: Vol 8, p 35 & pub on p 37: TS is an Esquire of bodily health imperfect...wife Margaret to have 1/2 of cleared land, 1/2 of wood land, 1/2 of dwelling house, 1/2 of barn now in my possession & under my improvement, also 1/2 of stock in cattle I have at decease. 1/2 of household furniture & ...during her natural life.
At her decease I give to son John Stinson all she has left at her decease except bequests hereafter named to sons Thomas, Samuel, & William to each of them 12 shillings. My daus.
